Melbourne High Versus FRV |
FRV'S WIN OVER DE LA SALLE 30/1/2024.
A strong 11 was named to take on De La Salle College last week at TH King Reserve. FRV lost the toss and were sent into bat on a wicket that looked like it might dry out throughout the day. Norm Lu and Ash Walker opened the batting and saw off some great bowling on a wicket that was doing a bit. The De La Salle bowlers bowled well to dismiss both openers which brought Pete Herrick and Adam Hanger to the crease. Both played exceptionally well to steady the ship and accelerate the run rate frustrating the bowling attack with Pete making a solid 29 and Adam top scoring for the day with 79!!! The De La Salle bowling attack steadied to bog down FRV’s middle order and slow the run rate before Wal Wilson(13) and Jason Vaughn(18) played some shots late in the innings to bring our total to 172 off the 35 overs. The De La Salle batting lineup were set a target of 173 at a rate of just under 5 per over on a pitch that was deteriorating rapidly. The De La Salle top order felt the scoreboard pressure early and came out playing shots. They were no match for the opening bowlers (Jason Vaughn and Bernie Ward) who consistently hit an unplayable line and length. Bernie Ward was moving the ball a mile and ended the day with figures of 4/10 off 5 overs!! The De La Salle bat’s continued to play shots and were unrewarded due to a massive effort in the field to restrict the scoring. Ash Walker also took 3/5 off 4 overs and a cracking catch at point early in the innings to set the fielding standard. De La Salle were bowled out about 100 runs short ensuring an emphatic FRV win and early finish. A big thankyou to everyone who made themselves available to play and made the day a success. Look out for a rematch date into March sometime. There is a game scheduled against Melbourne High School Wednesday 21st February. Please get in touch with your availability. There is a bit of momentum going into this one so get onboard. |
